We are rapidly approaching the holiday season of 2020, a season that may arguably be remembered as the most unusual in many people's lives. The holidays are traditionally marked as a time when families come together and reflect on the significance of the year. In the wake of a trying Presidential Election and the ever-looming uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people find themselves paralyzed with frustration as they anxiously wonder if the world will ever return back to 'normal'. The spirit of condemnation, like a national pandemic, can paralyze us with the shame from our past. The spirit of condemnation serves one major purpose: to create a wall of separation between you and what God has ordained for your life.
As we continue to attack the spirit of condemnation, there are some heavily fortified walls of accusation that stand between you and the measure of fulfillment that you will embrace for this year. The critical thing to understand is that walls of condemnation aren't readily able to be overcome by ordinary means. Like Joshua at the Battle of Jericho, it will take a strategic, unified move of the Spirit of God to cause the walls of despair to come crashing down in your life. During this current sixty-day period of prayer, I've made a declaration to incorporate the following strategies in my journey to march towards victory:
1. [ I WILL NOT SUBSCRIBE TO ANY DESTRUCTIVE MEDIA OUTLET IN MY HOME]: The scripture reminds us in Philippians 4:8 to meditate on things that are lovely and of a good report. There is nothing redeeming about watching television shows that promote sexual immorality. Networks across the nation are creating a lineup card of programs that glorify greed and encourage people to destroy each other with vindictiveness. It's important to take special inventory of what you allow your eyes to behold every day and ensure that you're not filling your mind with a reservoir of destruction. Whatever frequency you are tuning in to watch is a true reflection of what is resonating in your spiritual life.
2. [I WILL NOT SIT AROUND AND MAKE PROVISION FOR THE LUST OF THE FLESH]: Romans 13:14 reminds us to literally put on the Lord Jesus Christ in order to help us abstain from our fleshly desires. Each day that we fail to acknowledge the Lord as our true source, we make ourselves more susceptible to temptation. This reality has become more evident during the time of quarantine, as many find themselves alone and isolated in the emotions of past failures. It is crucial to maintain an active life of service for the Kingdom of God, always looking to elevate the hope of someone else rather than yourself.
3. [I WILL NOT USE SOCIAL MEDIA AS A WEAPON OF DIVISION]: In Jeremiah 17:10, we are reminded that God does a thorough examination of our hearts. Scroll through the comment section of any Facebook or YouTube post and you'll find commentary that is dripping with violence and hatred. People are using Instagram to post provocative photos that incite a spirit of lust leading to infidelity. These photos and commentary are derived from someone's innermost thoughts and are strategically portrayed to establish an unwavering desire for self-promotion. How can we promote unity within our families and communities if we are using our iPhones and iPads as instruments of perversion and division? God will not only hold us accountable for the content of the words we speak but for content of the material that we post on the internet for all to see. Let's use social media to promote the Gospel of peace through the shed blood of Jesus Christ in this season.
