Ladies and Gentleman, I was born in Chicago, Illinois, which makes me a Chicago native. The fact that I'm a native of Chicago also means that I'm a registered Chicago Bears fan, and if any of you have been tracking the recent performance of the team, you will know that we have arguably the most inept and ineffective offense in the entire National Football League. As of Week eleven, the Bears offense ranks next to last in Total Yards Per Game. The team continues to get flagged for false starts, illegal shifts, and offensive holding penalties, which limits their ability to get first downs. The quarterback has continued to act as though he's having difficulty hearing the play calls, resulting in multiple delay of game penalties. There is no sense of urgency when it comes to offensive proficiency, and the players are becoming more discouraged by each possession.
As a fan of the Chicago Bears, I've become accustomed to watching multiple years of offensive teams that produce stagnated results. I often wonder when the ownership will help cultivate a unit that can become an offensive threat and help compliment an already competitive defense. The game of football has many parallels to life in that it feeds on momentum. In today's NFL, people have a tendency to become enamored with deep passing plays that result in huge yardage. While a fifty-yard passing play may look more fashionable, it can often be well defended and deemed to be ineffective. The most successful teams are able to dominate the line of scrimmage, control time of possession, and MOVE THE CHAINS on offense by getting multiple first downs.
Like a struggling offense, many of you are having extreme difficulty getting first downs in your life. In Micah 6:8. the Lord requires these three basic elements: to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God. The reason why many of us are having so much difficulty finding progress in this season is because we are getting penalized for too many unnecessary false starts and illegal shifts. When you are out of alignment and are struggling to understand the play calling of Jesus Christ as the true Offensive Coordinator, you will continued to get flagged and lose all of your forward progress. Some of you are looking for the big deep-ball play down the sideline that will help you score, but your opposition knows your tactics and has set up to prevent you from the long passing plays. Satan and his cohorts of demonic principalities will unleash every image of your past to blind you from your destiny and distort your ability to hear directly from God.
In order to overcome the walls of condemnation of your past, you must devise an effective ground game that will help you gain positive yardage in the trenches. Instead of indulging in endless hours of media, spend an hour reading God's Word and praying for direction- that's a first down! Instead of spending $200 on something for yourself, distribute those funds to someone that may go without this holiday season- that's a first down! While it's easy to voice your discontent by cursing at a supervisor or colleague, why don't you seek to approach that individual by asking them what is needed to be done- that's a first down! Continue to look to Jesus Christ as the author and finisher of your faith, stay connected to the game plan, and let's move the chains for the sake of the Gospel!
